Mechanical Engineering/Applied Mechanics-Machine Element Design and Manufacturing Engineering

Faculty of Engineering and IT

BSc in Electro-Mechanical Engineering Programme

The post-holder will contribute to the development, teaching excellence and assessments of academic courses within the Electro-Mechanical Engineering programme and Faculty of Engineering and IT at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.

Qualified candidates ranking at Lecturer / Assistant Professor / Associate Professor in Mechanical Engineering/Applied Mechanics-Machine Element Design and Manufacturing will be considered based on:

Academic experiences and achievements on UG/PG teaching,
Academic administration duties,
UG final year projects advisory,
MSc/PhD dissertations/thesis supervision,
Scientific research publications on recognised reputable international research journals.
Minimum Qualification

The faculty position is open to individuals only who hold a PhD degree in Mechanical Engineering/Applied Mechanics - Machine Element Design and Manufacturing topics area from a recognized university focusing on advanced research in the area of Applied Mechanics topics of Engineering Dynamics and Mechanics of Materials, Machine Elements Design and Manufacturing topics area.

 

Essential Requirements

Hold a doctoral degree from a recognized university in the topics area of Mechanical Engineering/Applied Mechanics-Machine Element Design and Manufacturing
Ability to deliver high quality teaching in the area of Applied Mechanics topics of Engineering Systems Dynamics Materials Micro-Structures and Mechanics of Materials, Machine Elements Design and Manufacturing topics and other related courses for UG/PG levels.
Candidates applying for positions of Lecturer/ Assistant/ Associate Professor should has a suitable teaching experience in higher education institutions/universities.
Strong commitment to teaching and students advising and supervision at the undergraduate and post graduate levels such as, UG projects, MSc dissertations and PhD thesis.
Demonstrated ability to develop and sustain internally and externally funded research.
Ability to pursue independent research and a demonstrated aptitude for fundamental research.
The applicant should be a proactive learner, who is professional with teamwork skills and he/she should have the ability to conduct collaborative research.
Candidates applying for Assistant/ Associate Professor should have a distinguished record of accomplishment in research and a strong commitment to service and teaching at the graduate level.
Effective oral and written communication skills
The candidates should explore their capabilities to actively in promoting the growth of the British University in Dubai by the knowledge transfer or professional practices.
Preferred Qualifications

Active membership or fellowship of a professional body and recognized teaching qualification
Ability to design, develop, deliver, and evaluate authentic learning experiences and assessments incorporating contemporary tools and resources to maximize content learning in context and to develop the knowledge, skills, and attitudes identified in program outcomes.
Digital literacy and demonstrated fluency in technology systems, and an ability to model and facilitate use of current and emerging digital tools to support research and learning for UG/PG levels.
Demonstrated ability to develop technology-enriched learning environments that enable students to be active participants in their own learning.
Commitment to the effectiveness, vitality, and self-renewal of the teaching profession through self-driven continuous professional development and life-long learning.
Collaborative and collegial spirit and a demonstrated ability to establish rapport with learners, colleagues, sponsor-employers, and members of the community.
Experience of partnership working with external organisations evidence of securing and/or delivering externally funded projects or contracts with relevant business experience
Evidence of successful external networking and profile raising.
Administrative and organisational experience related to academic development or equivalent
Experience in leadership and innovation in technology-based project.
Duties and Responsibilities

To take responsibility for the development and delivery of teaching, learning and assessment for UG/PG levels. This can include substantial responsibility for the design, enhancement and organisation of teaching and learning, for curriculum development, or for the student experience.
To demonstrate innovative approaches for teaching learning and assessment and support for students in UG/PG levels through the use of a wide range of learning resources and appropriate pedagogic practice.
To ensure that the teaching for UG/PG levels is informed by contemporary research in the relevant field and develops the ability of students to engage in debate, critical discourse and rational thinking.
To ensure that students have an effective learning experience by providing high quality academic guidance and advice for UG/PG levels, which enhances their employability.
To reflect critically on teaching practice, implement improvements, disseminate good practice effectively to others, and contribute to quality monitoring, enhancement and to professional accreditation processes as required.
To contribute to the promotion and external profile of the University and adopt a customer/client-focused approach where appropriate.
To work effectively as a team member, working groups and where appropriate supervising or mentoring other members of staff.
To undertake professional development in support of teaching and research, and if appropriate in support of student welfare and curriculum management.

Qualified candidates of Lecturer / Assistant Professor / Associate Professor in the topics area of the Mechanical Engineering/Applied Mechanics-Machine Element Design and Manufacturing will directly reporting to:

Head of the Electro-mechanical Engineering UG programme
Dean of the Engineering & IT Faculty.
